High School: A Month in Review

High School: A Month in Review

Old Friends, New Friends

I still see some of my old friends at school, but not all of them. Some of my old friends have different lunches and I don’t have classes with them, which stinks. Hopefully I will have classes with them next semester. I have made a lot of new friends, especially from Global Ed, like Jake Colley, Becca and Allie Koestering, Breanna Gabrielson, and a lot more that I can’t think of right now.

SHS Activities Attended

So far, I have been to the Freshman Dance, the Welcome Back Dance, some Varsity Football Games, and both of the Invisible Children’s events. I am looking forward to Homecoming this weekend.

Funniest, Weirdest, Scariest Moments

On the first day of school, I walked into my second hour, Art Fundamentals, late and as I was walking in, everyone in the class, including my teacher, stared at me like I had something on my face. It was so scary to be looked at by thirty different people.

Hardest, Easiest Class and Assignments

My easiest class would have to be Spanish. I’m not sure why but Spanish seems easy to me. My hardest class would probably have to be either Global Ed or Art Fundamentals. I know that Art Fundamentals should be easy, but it is actually hard. My teacher grades really difficult and it’s hard to get an A.

Top Five Current Events

1. Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize.
2. LPS loses $7.7 million.
3. The Supreme Court just started a new session.
4. The H1N1 vaccine just came out a couple of weeks ago.
5. Herta Mueller won the Nobel Prize for literature.

Faces in the News

Some of the popular faces in the News are Barack Obama because he just won the Nobel Peace Prize. Another face that has been in the news lately is Hillary Clinton. A couple more faces in the news are the nine Supreme Court Justices, Hamid Karzai, Ardi, and Abdullah Abdullah.

Interesting New Words

Some news words that I have learned are perfunctorily- which means to do something out of routine, akimbo- which means to put your hands on your hips, and limpid- which means something that is clear and calm. Another word would be sylvan which means a wooded or forested area.

First Cultural Event

For my first Cultural Event, I went to the Invisible Children's movie. For my next cultural event, I went to the Invisible Children's event when the actual Roadies came to Stevenson.

Homecoming

Homecoming was so much fun. I had a blast. I never thought that homecoming would be that much fun. We went to homecoming in a limo that my friend got for free! We also ate at her house which was easier because we had 25 people in our group. Then I spent the night at my friend's house. That was fun too!

Advice for Freshman

Some advice for freshman would have to be to not buy an elevator pass and make sure that you get a seat at lunch or have a friend save you a seat because a couple of days I haven't gotten a seat at lunch and it really stinks. Also, study for your tests and midterms! That's always important.

What I'm Looking Forward to...

I'm looking forward to going on a Global Ed trip within my next four years of high school. I'm excited for prom, next year's homecoming, and the homecomings to come! I'm also excited for basketball try-outs in 2 weeks and soccer team try-outs in the fall.

Other Noteworthy Achievements or Events

I hope that I will get all A's for this card-marking. I'm trying my best to work hard in classes and do good on my tests. I am playing indoor soccer for my club and hopefully Stevenson. I will be trying out for basketball within the next 2 weeks.
